Nunchaku, better known as nunchuk, is a historical weapon that became famous in an East Asian Island, Okinawa. They gained huge popularity when a famous actor Bruce Lee used them in his movies. A typical nunchaku consists of a couple of ticks connected using a chain or a cord. There is unusual skill required to operate them, but you can learn different tricks to become a master operator of Nunchucks. If you have purchased a nunchaku and you are curious to learn the nunchaku tricks, don’t worry. There are certain easy to perform tricks that I have disclosed in this article. Pay close attention to what you read, and I promise you will be a skillful Nunchaku player.
Grip the Nunchucks with control
The basic nunchaku tricks include the way to grip them so that you have a good control over them. The grip is pretty crucial as it would enable you to perform the tricks with ease. Make sure to hold the handle in a way that it is at a length of one thumb from the top. Always hold the nunchaku in this particular fashion.
Swing it in figure 8
Holding it at the place mentioned above and swing it in the sideways in the shape of figure 8. However, be careful while swinging, keep the nunchaku away from your body to prevent from any harm to the body or head. You can watch the movies of Bruce Lee to learn how he swung it in the figure 8. However, this is probably the easiest trick to perform with the nunchucks.
The Arm catch after the swing
If you continue swinging the nunchaku in the figure 8 shape, the next trick you can perform is the arm catch. While swinging you will be led to a point where you are almost swinging back up on your stronger side. Now, swing the other handle of the nunchaku up to the highest point and twist the wrist for bringing the handle into the armpit. It seems difficult to explain this trick, but believe me it is pretty easy to perform. Here again, watching movies can help you in this regard. Once you watch, you will figure out how easily you can perform this trick.
Flicking out of the Arm Catch
After the arm catch, you can move to flicking out trick. This is also easy as you just need to catch the handle under the arm. Now, flick the handle around and out by twisting the wrist and then, catch the handle again. You may have seen this trick if you watch Chinese movies. Some practice would enable you to master this trick.
Over and around the shoulder
This trick is easy to learn, but it will take maximum practice to master it. Place the weaker hand across the body and swing the nunchaku over the shoulders. Now, catch the swinging handle with the weaker hand. Pull the other part and repeat the swing over the stronger shoulder. These tricks are certainly easy, but you would require consistent practice to perform them expertly.
